Christmas In Singapore

I just came back today from my 5-day trip to Singapore. It has been exciting and tiring holiday for me. This trip took me to Sentosa Island, Vivo City shopping mall and the famed Orchard Road, which is Singapore's equivalent to our Bukit Bintang. For certain reasons, Singapore reminds me of my beloved Japan. The public transport system is highly reliable and efficient. Buses and trains would arrive on time. Malaysia has got to learn something from them about public transport system. The trains used is the same ones found in Japan, while the elevated highways highly resemble those in Japan. Food there is cheap, and I consider myself lucky after stumbling upon two rare Alfa Romeo die-cast car models, one a 1970 Alfa Romeo Montreal and the other a 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2000, which is also cheap. What surprised me the most is the cleanliness of the island country. It's really top notch. Put it simply, there's just no way to describe my trip there. Anyway, here are some pictures I took.

Users Of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Please Take Note!

To all users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 users, please take note! Microsoft Inc. has recently found a serious flaw in the widely-used internet browser which allows hackers to gain total control over your computer system. This problem, called the 'Zero-day' vulnerability, will only take place when users click on certain internet links which then goes on to allow the hackers to gain access to important informations, datas and subsequently, total control of your computer. Once your computer has been affected, the hackers can gain control of your computer the moment you are connected to the internet, regardless if you're using the web browser or not. Most of the affected links are from Chinese websites. Microsoft. has also warned users that although this case is reported happening to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 so far, older versions are also vulnerable to this threat, although the risk is much lower. Microsoft is now working on to create a patch to fix the problem out of their usual monthly update. Meanwhile, security experts hace advised users to use alternative web browsers for now until the patch is released. Initial symptoms of this problem includes the inability to access the internet, online chatting software like Windows Live Messenger and MSN Messenger are unable to open or sign in as well as the inability to open the Task Manager.

Bleak Future Ahead...

The world of motorsport seems to be dying a slow death due to the world economic crisis. On November 4, Honda Motors Co. pulled outof Formula 1, stating that it needs the fund to continue running its core car manufacturing business. Then on 15th November, Suzuki pulled out of the World Rally Championship (WRC), followed suit by Subaru the following day. The exit of Subaru would hit fans, supporters and particularly its sales hard for Subaru depended on its rallying image for sales of their cars. As one can see, those companies mentioned above are all Japanese, so it looks like that the Japanese are the worst hit by the crisis. I would not be surprised if Mitsubishi pulls out of the infamous Paris-Dakar Rally soon. The future of motorsports really do look bleak now..., if the world economy condition remains in the same state like now.

A Trip To Mid Valley

I went to Mid Valley with Jo Lynn, Michelle Hor and Jeremy today. Earlier the few weeks before, I was planning one same exact trip, but no one would come. Lucky Michelle did this one. Thank you Michelle! :D But this trip was marred by my problematic phone which, quite stupidly, couldn't make calls and send messages for the whole day. I was the first to arrive, at 11 sharp. Around 10 minutes later, Jo Lynn arrived. I was suppose to get her, but my phone cut off all means of communication, so I spent the next 5 minutes running about like a mad man looking for her. Michelle and Jeremy arrived together at 11.30. The first thing we did was went to watch "The Day The Earth Stood Still". It's not a bad show, in my opinion, just lacking some serious action sequences. The best thing about this show? The GORT robot and some true facts uttered by Keanu Reeves alien character Klaatu about the human race's behaviours. It's a show that's not quite up to everyone's expectations. After the show, Jeremy decided to head to The Gardens to exchange his mom's stockings at Isetan. In the process, Michelle bought a pair of socks. Later, we went to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. At around 3.30, Jo Lynn wanted to go to MPH, because her mom said they would be leaving at 4. Turns out that they would actually be leaving later because her dad has some meeting at the office, so the 2 of us went to Toys R Us while Michelle and Jeremy went elsewhere. Michelle was the first to leave, followed by Jo Lynn, then me and finally, Jeremy. Before Jo Lynn left, she gave me a neckchain, which I like a lot. It was her Christmas present for me, so she said, "Don't wear it before Christmas...". It's a nice one, with a blue diamond in the middle of the pendant (the colour blue is a plus point for me! :D).

Undercover: Secret Uncovered!

Well, I managed to finish up my "Need For Speed Undercover" in a record of 4 days. It's a personal best for me to finish a game with a storyline in such a short time, beating my previous record of "Need For Speed: Underground" of 8 days. To uncover the big 'secret' at the end of the game leads to an exciting car chase between the antagonist and police force.

Need For Speed: Undercover

Yesterday I bought EA's latest racing game, "Need For Speed: Undercover". Overall, gameplay is really exciting, with superb graphics and driving mechanics. The selection of cars available is pretty good, although lacking some models that I really want like Ferraris and Hondas.

Neckchains

What is 'neckchains', you may ask? Well, it's my interpretion of necklaces for guys. To hear that a guy wear 'necklaces' sounds odd, isn't it? Well, here's my collection of 'neckchains', which I might add, most of it are special one-off customised from all sorts of things that I can find by myself (with a little help from my mom, of course!):

This one was given to me as a keychain by Jo Lynn on my birthday this year, but I decided to change it into a neckchain after I saw it as my lucky charm that gave me luck at certain circumstances. Now I'm wearing it wherever I go, even at home, but not to school, of course!

This one's given to me by my mom. It's a pendant of 'God of Happiness'.

This is a bug cicada pendant, if you can't see it clearly. What's a cicada, eh? Go find out yourself on the internet.

This one is quite silly, actually. If you look closer, you'll find a 'Hotwheels' logo right in the middle. Yes, it came from one of my 'transformable' toy car set. But I see it has potential to be a nice neckchain, so I customised it into one.

This dog tag comes in two seperate piece, but I decided to put them together after being inspired by some war movies.

I don't know what is this, for my mom bought it. But the logo on it seems to resemble Boy Scouts' logo.

This green pendant is a spare item. There's two red fishes on the surface, see? It's my star sign, Pisces.

Hectic Day

Today I went to the Subang Customs office to make my passport because I'm going to Singapore for Christmas. Arrived at 7.20 a.m, but my dad forgot to photostat some documents, so have to do so and queue up again. The were a lot of people, and by the time I received my passport, it was already 2.15 p.m. Ridiculous! Plus, the air-cond wasn't on so it was like a microwave oven inside the building. Government building? More like some pig shed only. To wait for almost 7 hours to get my passport is REALLY BORING (my cheap MP3 player is total RUBBISH! It can only last 1 hour on full charge!), but I'm glad that Jo Lynn could accompany me by SMS-ing with me.

My First Drift Visit

I went to the "Drift For Charity" drift event at Bukit Jalil today. There were quite a lot of people there. When I arrived at around 3.30 p.m, there were no drift sessions yet, so I went and check out all those drift machines present. I saw Yoong's HKS Hiper DCM Nissan Silvia S13, Ah Fai's blue Goodyear Drift Team's 1JZ-GTE-powered Nissan Cefiro A31, both Sean Khoo's Onwards Motorsport Nissan Silvia S13 and Dunlop Drift Team Nissan Silvia S13 as well as a lot more other rides, including a E30 BMW 3-Series. Ah Fai and his Cefiro left soon after I arrived, as it had suffered some damage like a shattered windscreen and a broken hood. The drift session starts almost half-an-hour later with all the cars being old Toyotas like the Corolla LE and DX. There's also two of the legendary "Hachi-roku" (that's Japanese for "86", for your those who don't know), one liftback and the other a coupe. Later on cars like A31 Cefiros starts joining in. Yoong and Sean also made some runs in their cars. One thing that I learnt from this event is that no more than 2 cars should be on the track at the same time, as witnessed when 6 cars head to the track at the same time and collision almost occured when a few of them spun around. My day ended with a quick chat with both Yoong and Sean.

My Shell-James Bond Aston Martin DBS

I got the Shell-James Bond Aston Martin DBS car on the 16th November courtesy of my dad. Here are some pictures of it (sorry for the blur pictures. I took them with my lame K300i phone's VGA camera):

James Bond's Favourite Drink

As you all die-hard James Bond fans would know, Agent 007's favourite drink has got to be the Vesper vodka martini. Bond would always order it 'shaken, not stirred'. But what's the ingredients used to make that drink? Well, it's 3 measures (9 ounces) of gin (Gordon's was Bond's choice), 1 measure (3 ounces) of vodka (Bond preferred a grain vodka to be used; e.g Absolut) and half a measure (1.5 ounces) of Kina Lillet. The ingredients would then be shaken over ice until cold, served in a cocktail glass with a slice of lemon peel for garnish. Kina Lillet has not been made since 1985 and the modern substitute would be Lillet Blanc, made by the same company, Lillet, based in Podensac, France. This also creates somewhat of a chronoligical error as the film adaption of "Casino Royale" is clearly set in the present, when Kina Lillet would no longer be available.

James Bond's Rides: Aston Martin V8 Vantage

In "The Living Daylights", James Bond drives a Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Q equips the car with spike-producing tyres, jet engine booster rocket hidden behind the rear number plate for that extra speed to escape from persuers, police band scanner radio, a pair of heat-seeking missiles concealed behind the front spot lights, heads-up display (HUD) for targeting the missiles, a self-destruct system, built-in lasers on the front hubcap (the modern equivalent of the DB5's telescoping tyre-slashers but with the ability to do more than slashing tyres) and extending outriggers on the side sills to enable it to ski on snow and ice. At the beginning of the show, the car was a Volante convertible version and did not display any particular 'special features', but later it was 'winterised' with a hardtop.
